Juno

so, everyone i knew who saw this movie said how great it was. so i was going with high expectations. as anyone knows, having high expectations for a movie is always a bad thing, because if it doesnt meet those expectations, then you might walk away from an 'ok' movie thinking it sucks. so, i didnt know how i would take Juno. however, it far surpassed my expectations.

every now and then there is a movie that inspires me, captivates my thoughts completely, and changes the way i view life. if you want to know other movies that have done that for me, then you can check my list (which needs to be updated).

i loved this movie, i loved the characters, i loved the situation. you look at this family, who, are as close to a 'good' family as you can get. i dont think there was much "Hollywood" to this family, i feel the writers did a good job of portraying something real to life. with that said, this family was just good. they were good people and they were inspiring. one other thing, it just goes to show that Christianity has none to do with being 'good' or our actions. this family was good, and they did it without Jesus and without belief. thats so fascinating to me because its contrary to the Christian faith of most. i also love how it has a pro-life message without being Christian. anyway, it was a great movie.

Glad you enjoyed the movie - Cari and I loved it.

Along the lines of your final comments - I certainly think that non-Christians can be moral people. Any Christian who says otherwise probably hasn't stepped outside their door and interacted with anyone outside their church recently. Having said that, I do think that Christianity gives the best impetus and rationale for being a moral person.

I've read some reviews that have actually tried to read this family as having a closer connection with Christianity than you're allowing for. I think some of it stems from a comment the mom makes not long after they find out about Juno's pregnancy - something about Jesus, but I can't remember the exact quote. Its probably a little flimsy to build much of a conclusion on - but that doesn't stop some people from trying. :-) Regardless, I certainly think the movie portrays a number of values and themes that Christians should readily affirm.
